Palmetto Legal Services provides free legal services in non criminal legal matters to qualified low income residents of the South Carolina Midlands,through four field offices, located in Columbia, Lexington, Orangeburg and Sumter. Each field office has a managing attorney and staff. The agency Administration is located in Columbia. Click on the menu links to your left for information on program policy, newsletter, community resources, community legal education and brochures which you may download or order online, legal reference on substantive legal matters, including our "Quick Reference" pages, legal research links, and links to other legal services programs throughout the U.S. When a person's name appears as a "link", you may click on their name to send them an e-mail message. The new telephone line has enabled us to assist several clients to date, who might otherwise have been unable to access our services. Palmetto Legal Services sponsors free legal education clinics throughout our 12 county service area. Most involve a presentation on a specific area of law by PLS staff attorneys and paralegals followed by a question and answer session. Literature and materials are also available. Palmetto Legal Services now offers additional services to the elderly (over 65) residents of our service area including classes in Elder Law, advice, brief service and representation. ELDER LAW SERVICES There are Five Legal Services Programs in South Carolina.Each Program covers a different section of the state, has field offices which serve the clients residing in that section. Clients should apply for services through the Statewide Intake Service, LATIS, or, through the Program covering the area in which they reside. (if an emergency) Each Legal Services Program in S.C. also has a representative on the Legal Services Internet & Technology Committee. The five SC Legal Services Programs also maintain
