SOFTWARE
DOWNLOADING and INSTALLING
There are many software programs available on the Internet, either as freeware, or shareware programs, as well as many that you can purchase online. In order to use the programs on your computer, you need to download them to your computer, and then, install them.

Getting Ready to Download Programs
You need to set up a Directory for Downloading Programs. (I download my apps into C:\myfiles\apps)
(Use Windows Explorer or File Manager to Create a Directory)

DOWNLOADING & INSTALLING

Now, you need to download the program to your computer. Go to the link where the program is located, and, download it. Here are step by step instructions to download and install two popular programs:

1. File Transfer Program (WS_FTP)
This is the free version of WS_FTP. A File Transfer Program (FTP) is used to transfer files from your computer to your site on the Internet.

DOWNLOAD
Go to the site where the program is located:
http://www.ipswitch.com/downloads/ws_ftp_LE.html

INSTALL SET UP FTP and USE IT!

2. PKZIP
PKZip is a compression program, that you can use to compress and uncompress files. For example, if you want to email someone 10 files, instead of sending each file separately, use PKZip to "compress" the files into one file, called an "archive". When your recipient gets the files, they "extract" the files, using PKZip. When you send a program to someone, use PKZip. Using PKZip speeds  up file transfers, as the size is smaller, and, makes it easier for your recipient to place the files where they want on their computer.

3. PEOPLE LINK
PeopleLink is a free instant messaging/chat program currently being used by many Legal Services staff and the Equal Justice network.
