Computer-Aided Transcription Certificate


The Computer-Aided Transcription Certificate is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in the medical, legal, governmental, insurance or private forums.  Job opportunities include scoping and editing for court reporters;  transcribing legal and medical documents, minutes of meetings, as well as law  enforcement statements and incident reports.

Students should be able to type at least 30 Net words per minute prior to entry and possess above average grammatical skills.  Students will be expected to practice from three to six hours a day to acquire the necessary level of speed and accuracy to qualify as court reporters.  Students will be required to purchase their own shorthand machine (approximate cost $400 used) and maintain adequate supplies of machine tape.

Graduation Requirements:
A grade of "C" or better is required in all courses;
Three (3) tests each at a minimum of 95 percent on
Literary, Jury Charge and Q & A at 120 WPM

This Certificate must be completed prior to entering Court Reporting
Certificate Program.
